Principal's Welcome

I would like to welcome you to Thomas Deacon Academy. I feel privileged to be Principal of this amazing school.
Our core purpose is:
‘To ensure that each student acquires the necessary knowledge, skills and character to make a positive contribution to society and ‘thrive’ as a global citizen’.
We believe our young people should leave us as citizens who are fully equipped with the character and qualifications to take their place in the world. We place great emphasis on ensuring our students experience a broad and balanced curriculum, with a wide range of extra-curricular activities, opportunities for them to develop their 'character' and a strong pastoral system to support them with life’s challenges.
Our students benefit from our outstanding facilities. These include our Norman Foster designed academy building and purpose-built Key Stage 2 Juniors building located on our 43-acre campus. We also have an excellent Sixth Form Study Centre and expansive playing fields and sporting facilities.
When Thomas Deacon Academy opened, in September 2007, we took our name from the Thomas Deacon, a prominent 18th-century philanthropist and educational benefactor whose legacy continues to inspire our commitment to learning and character development. Buried in Peterborough Cathedral when he died in 1721, he bequeathed money and property in his will to start a small school to educate Peterborough children in reading, writing and maths. It is from these beginnings that we have grown into the academy we are today.
We are part of Thomas Deacon Education Trust which provides us with a great community and a network of support and expertise. Importantly, the Trust shares our vision to give our students the highest quality education possible, and the best start in life.
I am delighted that you are interested in finding out more about our academy and we look forward to seeing or hearing from you soon.
Emily Gaunt, Principal
