Thomas Deacon Academy was one of the first Academies to be created and continues to thrive through our core values of Trust, Discipline and Aspiration. As we enter the exciting new phase of our future. We continue to offer an aspirational learning environment for students from the ages of 7 to 18 years old. Our modern facilities, TDA Junior, Sixth Form Study Centre and 43 acre campus allow us to provide the ultimate in educational choice.

Most recently, July 2015, Ofsted graded the Academy as ‘Good’ in all areas and we are moving forward in our continued journey towards ‘Outstanding’.

The Academy also saw a substantial increase in our examination results in August 2015 reflecting a three year upwards trend.

  • Teacher of History - September 2017 Start

    The Job

    We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Teacher of History to join a forward-thinking and supportive team. Candidates should be able to demonstrate enthusiasm and passion for their subject, the ability to deliver consistently stimulating lessons to a highly-motivated student cohort, and be committed to maximising achievement. The achievement of pupils in History is already strong: more pupils achieve A* in History than in any other GCSE, progress is in line with national averages and results show value-added at A level is positive. History is a highly popular option subject in Key Stage 4 where students currently follow the Edexcel SHP syllabus and at Key Stage 5 where both early modern and modern units are taught.

    We would be particularly pleased to hear from candidates with the ability to teach the subject at A Level.

    The Job

    The dedicated Well-being department is looking to appoint a passionate Head of House who can lead their team and provide vital pastoral and academic support to all students. The successful candidate will be able to develop and embed an ethos of high expectations, exceptional attitudes to learning and exemplary conduct within the Academy as well as develop strong professional relationships with students and parents.

    This role will include 9 teaching periods throughout the week. Subjects taught would ideally be either Science, Maths or Computer Science, however, other subjects will still be considered.

    • Be a strong leader and able to influence others.
    • Have previous pastoral experience.
    • Have strong communication skills and be able to have difficult conversations with students and parents.

    We are currently looking to recruit a Lead Invigilator to support the work of our Exams Team. 

    The Lead Invigilator supervises the whole examination, the safety and security of examination papers and scripts, and the Invigilators working alongside them during the examination.  Lead Invigilators are required to address large numbers of students (up to 300) at the start of each exam, and are also responsible for dealing with and reporting any issues experienced during examinations.

    We are seeking a Student Support Worker to join our dedicated Wellbeing team at the Thomas Deacon Academy.

    The successful candidate will have the ability to assist and work under the direction of the class teacher. They will be able to support and aid the learning of pupils through clarifying and explaining instructions, ensuring the use of equipment and materials, and to provide continuous encouragement and motivation.

    They will have knowledge of the local and national learning strategies to enhance literacy and numeracy, and in line with Academy policies they will be able to effectively manage pupil behaviour.
