With a new, outstanding sixth form Study Centre complete with superb IT facilities, and exceptional progress having been made in terms of academic performance, studying at TDA6 has never been a more attractive option. TDA6 is a learning community of some 350 sixth formers which sits within Thomas Deacon Academy. We are a Level 3 provider offering a wide variety of AS and A levels, BTEC and OCR National qualifications. Destinations for our students are varied with over 85% of our current Yr. 13 having been offered a place at university. Alongside excellent UCAS support we also offer a supportive programme for those looking to move into apprenticeships or the workplace upon leaving sixth form.
Students are at the centre of what we do here at TDA6; from sixth form tutor groups, Pastoral Heads of House, subject-based Progress Managers and a dedicated sixth form team everyone is focused on helping our young people to succeed. This year our enrichment programme has gone from strength to strength and we have seen students participating in Duke of Edinburgh awards, the Combined Cadet Force, running Young Enterprise businesses or listening to guest speakers from the Cambridge University and Loughborough University talk on a variety of topics. As part of the broader community TDA6 students help to raise money for charities, support younger students through various mentoring and buddying schemes and lead on student council activities.
We have a member of staff dedicated to helping students to make the best of their time in the Study Centre to help ensure that students develop the skills required to meet the demands of study at this level. Emphasis is placed on students taking responsibility for their education and social progress in readiness for life after sixth form.
