Post 16
The Thomas Deacon Academy houses a sixth form of 440 students. The sixth form is a Level 3 provider and courses are offered in a wide variety of subjects at AS and A2 levels, BTEC and OCR Nationals. Destinations for our students are varied with 75% moving on to Higher or Further education. A supportive programme for those looking to move into apprenticeships or the workplace is also provided.
Support services for our sixth form are varied ranging from Post 16 Student Achievement Leaders who support students with their academic progress in school to our sixth form manager who co-ordinates our careers and education guidance programme as well as tutor time activities and the sixth form enrichment programme. Our Post 16 Administrator is placed within the study centre to ensure that students are supported in developing the skills necessary for the demands of study at this level. Emphasis is placed on students taking responsibility for their education and social progress in the sixth form in preparation for their choices Post 19. We aim for each and every student in our sixth form to develop the academic and social skills that will enable them to progress onto their chosen pathway Post 19.
Applications for Sixth Form: September 2013
Our Post 16 Open Evening was held on Wednesday, 10th October 2012. We were delighted to see so many students attend with their parents.
We received the following comment from a parent after the event:
‘We received such helpful information on all the subjects that my son is interested in studying. The staff that he questioned were exceptionally helpful to him and gave such positive feedback. His opinion was "Mum I don’t need to look anywhere else, this is the place for me, I know the staff, they help me and I feel I could do well in the 6th form.” There also was so much choice for him, amazing. He just needs to get the right grades now!
I also heard many external students being wowed by everything too’.
