International projects enable our students to collaborate and communicate with young people and teachers from other countries and cultures. Our students and staff can take part in short term student exchange visits to experience life in another country, learning another language, visiting businesses and sites of cultural interest and working alongside their peers in another school.
Students from Y7-13 are welcome to join the project team. Current projects include “Who Do You Think We Are?” focussing on culture and identity across Europe with partner schools in Germany, Poland, Lithuania, Spain and Croatia and “Grab a book”, a project with a school in the Czech Republic which encourages reading for pleasure for students and supports teachers to incorporate drama into literature lessons in school.
We have a school exchange programme with a partner schools in Spain to support Modern Foreign Languages and more recently we have developed partnerships with schools in China.
Students from outside the UK are able to join lessons at Thomas Deacon Academy for short term immersion language placements in our International Student Programme. We welcome students from Mexico, China, Italy and Taiwan into Y7-10 and students from Europe and beyond into long term placements into Y12.
