TDA participation in Royal Society of Chemistry launch event for British Science Week

TDA Year 8 students recently took part in a two-stage event, run by the Royal Society of Chemistry, involving an online quiz and a practical challenge as part of the international launch of the Royal Society of Chemistry Chemical Reaction Challenge. The challenge was organised by the Royal Society of Chemistry and 3P Learning to celebrate British Science Week 2015, which is funded by the Department of Business Innovation and Skills.  Three lucky secondary students had the chance to win an iPad for themselves and a free site licence for ‘IntoScience’ - the interactive digital science resource - for their school.  British Science Week is an annual ten-day programme of science, technology, engineering and maths events and activities across the UK, aimed at people of all ages.

Participating schools received a customised report analysing students’ strengths and weaknesses across different areas of the chemistry curriculum and the winners will be announced in April.

Tom Fowler, TDA chemistry teacher said:

“Students found the interactive quiz highly engaging and were actively competing with each other to try and answer the most questions correctly”.

Bob Duddrige, TDA STEM Team Leader added:

“The day was a big success thanks to the hard work of staff from the Royal Society of Chemistry, the support of academy staff and the enthusiasm that our students displayed for chemistry.”
