Post 16 open evening 2009

The Thomas Deacon Academy is the largest, independent, government-funded school in the UK. With Lecture Theatres, a Recording Studio, large all-weather sports facilities, Performing Arts studios, a Theatre and Multi-Media Research Centre, the school is well-resourced to meet its target of being one of the highest performing schools in England. Whilst the Thomas Deacon Academy has an increasing national reputation in its specialism areas of Maths and Science, the support for Arts & Sports is significant.

The sixth form student body and their curriculum aim to be the crowning glory of The Thomas Deacon Academy. With a huge breadth of curriculum choice, and the development of the student being paramount, it is easy to see why places in the sixth form are becoming scarce. With A Levels and BTEC courses offered at Level 3, the focus is on enabling students to continue their education to the highest level beyond sixth form. Students are treated as young adults and dress appropriately for a business environment. They are expected to be role models and mentors for the younger students of the school through the college system. Priority is also placed on developing a wide and varied enrichment programme for students that supports and develops alongside their academic studies.
The Academy has fruitful partnerships with other local schools, the university centre in Peterborough and Oundle School. These partnerships are successfully focused on broadening the opportunities for students and are already part of the Academy’s enhanced educational experience. The Principal, Dr Alan McMurdo said ‘We have world-class facilities, exactly what the students, parents and wider community of Peterborough deserve.’
