Now that the volcanic ash situation has been ongoing for a number of days it is reasonable to consider our contingency plans in case the team cannot fly as planned on Friday. The group is due to arrive back into Marrakech after the trip on Thursday night, and our agents will check on the following morning to see if it is OK to go to the airport for their flight. If not, then they will remain in their hotel, and in doing so will start to incur costs.
Our MD, Christopher Short, has spoken to David Brooks the Director of Business Resource of Thomas Deacon Academy to clarify the situation regarding the school insurance policy. The volcanic ash situation is considered by the insurance company to be an Act of God and is therefore not covered by the policy. However Mr Brooks has stated that the Thomas Deacon Academy are willing to cover reasonable costs that arise from the expedition and then to deal with these later on, on an individual basis.
There may be instances where various flights are opened up, for example to mainland Europe, and our group may be offered the opportunity to travel there. However our recommendation at this stage is that they stay in Marrakech until they can get a full flight home. We will of course review this approach daily.
