STEM and Specialism
At Thomas Deacon Academy we strive to provide an exciting and relevant curriculum for our students which will provide for them opportunities in higher education and in employment. The STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) are an excellent way of doing this and provide our students with the skills and knowledge to get ahead in this competative world. Aspiration and information and opportunity are at the heart of what we need to provide for our students.
We are committed to ensure all of our students have a greater awareness of how STEM impacts on their lives by providing fantastic opportunities which encourage ours students to have a broader perspective in life. STEM subjects are held in high regard at Thomas Deacon and this is reflected in the destinations that our students move onto, 47% of our 6th form went onto study STEM based subjects at university.
We offer breadth in subject choice at key stage 4 and 5 and opportunities for enrichment activities such as the Crest Award and the Go4SET Awards..
In Key stage 3 we offer cross curricular projects in STEM (Science , Technology and Mathematics) where staff have a shared vision and work together to develop the skills needed to develop young people in STEM areas and in life generally.
We also have links with a large number of companies in STEM Industries with a large number of STEM Ambassadors who support what we do. We work closely with organisations such as the Royal Academy of Engineers, The Institute of Education, Stemnet, Engineering Development Trust, The Construction Industry Training board, to provide experiences and activities to promote the STEM agenda at the Thomas Deacon Academy.
