Futures 2012

In todays competative and complex jobs market employers and also higher education demand a range of skills from young people that will stand them in good stead for employmment in an increasingly technical and IT dependent world.

In Year 8 students are facing a competative world and also a world where they, the scientists of the future, will have to find solutions to these problems.

The Nuffield Futures Projects asks the question " What about the Future"  The Futures project trains students to use their skills to solve problems facing us all.

Students studied the idea of a closed loop system - where products are built, used then recycled. They came up with solutions to problems that face us all working in groups. They looked at climate change and waste/recycling and pollution generally and how we can deal with these issues in the future.

Each group then presented solutions to each other and in a project and were entered for the Crest Award - A National Award to recognise Creativity in Science,Technology and Engineering skills.

Over 160 students gained a Silver Award and over 130 students gained a Bronze Award - A fantastic achievement
