Community Languages

With over forty languages spoken amongst our school community we aim to provide the students from larger language groups with opportunities to learn and practise their home language. Classes take place either in the afternoons as part of our Enrichment Curriculum or on Saturday mornings as a Complementary School for the local community.

Currently we provide on-line lessons in Portuguese to enable our students to practise their speaking and listening, reading and writing skills culminating in GCSE entry when students are ready. Contact with schools in Poland through Skype video conferencing has put our Polish students in touch with their peers and their culture and heritage. International projects also help to strengthen language skills.
Since 2011 we have been hosting Saturday Complementary Schools for Peterborough's Lithuanian and Latvian communities and we are keen to offer our academy as a venue for other language schools including Urdu and Punjabi.

For students born outside of the UK whose first or home language is not English we provide ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages). This is a course from Beginners to Advanced and can be examined at L2 ie equivalent to GCSE.
