Welcome from the Principal
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to our web site. Thomas Deacon Academy opened in September 2007 in magnificent buildings that OFSTED described as “impressive and thoughtfully designed”. We were delighted too that OFSTED judged us, in only our third year, as a good school with a good capacity to improve further. We are on the road to outstanding though we must admit that the GCSE English results this year have given us a fresh challenge. 51 of our Y11 children were ‘robbed’ of their C grade and this is subject to an ongoing legal challenge. Nevertheless attainment in Maths and English at GCSE is our key and urgent priority this year.
We believe that all our learners are of equal value and that they all deserve to fulfil their potential. We therefore expect every member of our learning community to embrace excellence. We plan to ignite a spirit of enquiring creativity and exploration so that all students and staff challenge themselves and develop a passion for excellence.
We specialise in Maths and Science and we use these subjects to raise standards across the curriculum. We have made fair banding work and so we can guarantee to the people of Peterborough that we have a truly comprehensive intake. We are a training school and take very seriously our role in developing both current and future teachers and leaders. Finally we are a school with outstanding safeguarding, where children can enjoy coming to get on with their learning.
Our Local Partners and Sponsors
We work with Business Partners, Peterborough Regional College and the University Centre as well as quality Universities up and down the land to ensure that our Careers Education and Guidance really does get all our students onto the right programme when they leave us after Y11, 12 or 13.
Our sponsors, Perkins Engines and the Deacon’s School Trust work with us to ensure that the education here at Thomas Deacon is as good as it is distinctive. All our partners are members of the Thomas Deacon learning Alliance.
We set high standards for every member of the academy community and were delighted that OFSTED commented: “The Academy’s leaders accurately evaluate all aspects of the work and set increasingly challenging targets as they move towards their ambition to reach world – class performance by 2016”
I do hope this web site gives you a flavour of that journey and should you need more detail or want to join us on any part of it then please do get in touch.
