Success at the Academy Excellence Awards

The Academy Excellence Awards were held for the first time this year. A gruelling process, candidates had to submit a project related to a pre-determined theme set by the judges.

Students work was judged and a long list was put forward to the next stage. From here a short list made it to the final which was held at the East Midlands Conference Centre in July 2011, in conjunction with Nottingham University.

Nicola Hamilton achieved runner-up in the English category, judged by Susie Dent of Countdown fame. Nicola had to show how the arts contribute to current environmental debates and did so using Philip Larkin’s “Going, Going”. The evening was hosted by Kate Silverton.

As part of her prize, Nicola has won a work placement with Euro RSCG in London, one of the world’s top marketing companies.
