The challenge: Design and build a product that can carry a load over a specific distance, at the fastest speed, with the least impact.
Phase one: working in small, mixed teams the students designed their product, using theory, science and mathematics to calculate precisely how to meet the brief, considering aspects such as how the product would be powered, how it would be stopped at the exact distance and how the load would be protected during transit. Once the designs were finalised, a materials list was submitted in preparation for phase two.
Phase two: back in their teams, the students needed to build the product, working from the design plans produced. Manage the time efficiently so that there is opportunity for testing and modifications. Which team could design and build the optimum product?
